Reading Is Fundamental, Inc. is the nation’s oldest and largest non-profit children’s literacy organization. Its purpose is to help young people discover the joy and acquire the habit of reading. RIF supports literacy development by providing free books for children
to choose and keep, as well as encouraging them to read through motivational activities.
1973 was the start of the RIF program in Warner Robins. It has been continued yearly since that time. Branch members, Barbara Asbell, Jane Gramley and Eleanor Granum started the program with a distribution of 830 books to 166 children the first year. Over the next 36+ years, over50 AAUW volunteers have given over 60,000 books to over 15,000 students.
