Sorting is underway for the 2019 AAUW Used Book Sale. Sorting and pricing takes place every Tuesday and Thursday morning from 9:00 til 11:00.

Houston Peach AAUW meeting Tuesday, November 14, will feature first time author Melek Foster discussing her recently published book “When Life Stood Still”. “This story of long ago shows the heartaches of the time and place and how families intertwine through circumstances you could never imagine but held together by love. Three friends out for an adventurous journey bring back treasures. Little did they know what difference their finds would make to the lives of those in their own families and their community.” Refreshments/networking at 6:30 PM; Program 7:00 PM; business meeting follows. HoustonPeach AAUW meets the second Tuesday of each month at the Trinity United Methodist Church at the corner of Watson and Houston Road in Warner Robins. We have a meet and greet half hour beginning at 6:30 followed by our program. We conclude each evening with a short business meeting. Mark your calendars for our annual book sale which will be held at the Galleria Mall in Centerville, GA. The dates are Thursday, October 26 from noon – 9, Friday, October 27 from 9 am to 9 pm, and Saturday, October 28 from 9 am to 2 pm. Proceeds from our annual book sales go to support AAUW’s mission which is to advance equity for women and girls through advocacy, education,philanthropic and research.

On behalf of Houston Peach AAUW Branch, member Carolyn Schomer presented a copy of the history of the “Irish Brigade in the Civil War” to Muriel Jackson, head librarian of the Historical and Genealogical Room of the Washington Memorial Library in Macon.
“On the 8th day of Christmas, the AAUW members gathered at Mama Mia’s in Warner Robins for their Christmas dinner.” Below are candid shots of the fun time. It was special to have some member’s spouses along as well as one member’s sister. Thanks to Gul for planning it and Lois for decorating it and all others for coming and adding to the festivities!!

AAUW WILL BE HOSTING TWO SPEAKERS ON NOVEMBER 10. OUR SECOND SPEAKER COL. DAWN LANCASTER IS FROM THE AIR FORCE BASE IN WARNER ROBINS.
COLONEL DAWN C. LANCASTER Colonel Dawn Lancaster is the Vice Commander, 78th Air Base Wing, Robins Air Force Base, Georgia. The Wing’s 4,600 personnel are directly responsible for all logistics, medical, civil engineering, security, and mission support functions. As the Vice Commander supporting Georgia’s largest industrial complex, Colonel Lancaster provides facilities and equipment support for the base’s 37 hosted units, including a major command headquarters, an air logistics complex, and 4 wings on the 8,722-acre installation. She is responsible for the management of facilities and equipment valued at $6.9 billion and the execution of a $161.8 million operating budget. Additionally, Colonel Lancaster trains, deploys, and redeploys over 6,500 Airmen in support of Air Expeditionary Force and combatant commander requirements. She is also responsible for the morale and welfare of 24,000 Airmen and their family members.Colonel Lancaster received her commission from the U.S.Air Force Academy.
